It only took 29 seconds for the Dutch captain to strike as Gervinho passed the ball to him and he was able to boot it past the Sunderland keeper with is right foot.

Van Persie was exceptional for the first 20 minutes of the game and was clearly the best player on the pitch.

He just missed another goal early on when he had  a beautiful turn around and chip shot that bounced off the post.

Van Persie made up for it when he took a free kick and placed it in the top corner of the net in the 82nd minute. While many players on Arsenal faltered, Van Persie was a constant star on the pitch. He certainly backed up his words with his play on Sunday.

This win was huge for Arsenal it pushed them back to the top half of the standings in the Barclays Premier League with 10 points through eight matches.

Arsenal next play in Champions League vs. Marseille on Wednesday.
