Champions League Arsenal 1 — Marseille 0

I have a confession to make. For much of the 90+ minutes of Arsenal’s Champions League match-up vs. Marseille I was bored out of mind.

Marseille and Arsenal both played sloppy, uninspired football. A few players on Arsenal did some nice things such as Robin van Persie and Mikel Arteta.

On the other hand players were downright dreadful. Andrey Arshavin, Andre Santos, and Theo Walcott all left a lot to be desired for the Gunners.

Thankfully Arsene Wenger substituted Walcott for Gervinho. In the second half Arsenal dominated Marseille and held possession in the attacking third of the field for the majority of the time. However, they still couldn’t finish.

Embarrassingly I turned the game off I was so fed up with the team’s performance, but then I noticed my Twitter started blowing up with Arsenal fans going beserk.

In stoppage time, Gervinho had played a ball to midfielder Aaron Ramsey who lasered a shot past Marseille’s keeper in the 92nd minute of play.

The Wales international capitalized on Gervinho’s pass and was able to win the game for Arsenal. This was a huge victory to gain three points in Champions League standings and will give the team confidence heading into its next matchup vs. Stoke City.
